Pesca em Portugal app for iPhone and iPad

The App "Fisheries in Portugal" was developed within the project "LIFE Águeda - Conservation and management actions for migratory fish in the Vouga river basin (LIFE16 ENV/PT/000411)" (www.life-agueda.uevora.pt), with the objective of contributing to the knowledge on the distribution and abundance of freshwater fish species in the national river basins, through the compilation of thematic information regarding the catches made in the scope of recreational fishing activities.
"Fishing in Portugal" was conceived as an App that intends to involve the whole recreational fishing community in the promotion of a sustainable management and conservation of the natural heritage that are the freshwater fish populations in the national river basins, from a citizen-science perspective.
Users can record their catches of each species, also enabling the identification of their fishing grounds. The application also allows the user to follow the evolution of their catches, through an indicative system of targets achieved and the definition of rankings, based on parameters such as the largest fish or the largest number of catches, among others. Simultaneously, the user has access to images that facilitate the identification of the captured specimens and information about each species (common name, scientific name, distribution in Portugal, type of occurrence, conservation status, among others). The App allows the collection, management and sharing of data associated with recreational fishing activity by fishermen (including georeferencing of the site and photographs).
